Dauphin Island Kite Sesh!

Last weekend I took a couple days off and flew down to Dauphin Island Alabama to get some sun and hopefully do some kiteboarding.  It’s not the first time I’ve gone down there so I was pretty familiar with the area and conditions.  I packed my twin tip and 12m and 9m kites.  The kites are brand new Ocean Rodeo Razors, so I was pumped to try them out.

After two days of sun and 8 to 10 knots of breeze, the third day I got some wind.  It picked up out of the SE at around 10 to 12 knots around noon and I was dying to kite so I went out.  It wasn’t enough wind to stay upwind, but I could make tacks downwind.  I was just doing downwinders and doing the walk of shame back!!  Then after probably close to an hour of that, the wind picked up some more to around 16 knots and I was magically staying up wind and boosting.  I was able to ride upwind all they way into Pelican Bay and also saw 3 dolphins off shore.  The first one startled me when I saw a big fin come out of the water 20 ft away!
