Season Ending Kiteboarding Forecast 2016

Last Week – Nailed it: It was windy Friday, but not much Saturday or Sunday.

Tally 2016:  Nailed It! – 17, Close – 16, Way Off – 0

Last year my tally was; Nailed It! – 19, Close –13, Way Off – 2.  I didn’t get thrown way off this year ever, but I wasn’t quite as accurate either.

Water Temp:  Still in the low 40’s

It’s been quite a year with some very memorable experiences and awesome rides.  Some of the days that jump out in my memory was a downwinder in early July where the sun came out and the water turned turquois blue and it felt like riding in the Caribbean.  Also, riding a new spot at the Platte River Outlet and riding up the river.  Then there was the downwinder from Frankfort to Pt Betsie and how when we got to the Pt it was so windy we could hardly land our kites.

I’d like to say thank you to our readers and subscribers and I hope everyone continues to visit to check conditions and the webcams and returns next season for the forecasts.  I will be making another post in a couple weeks with the best pictures from 2016, so that is something to look forward to.  Maybe we’ll get some video up too at some point, although we haven’t taken as much this year as in the past.

With the snow flying I’m looking forward to some snowkiting too, so hopefully we can blog about that if we get some good sessions in.

Big Sable Point Lighthouse

This is a weekly blog post of my best guess at the kiteboarding conditions for the coastline of Lake Michigan from Holland north to Pt Betsie. Subscribe to automatically receive this forecast in your inbox

  • Sad to see the water season come to an end. Fun year though and looking forward to some snowkiting this winter.
