Weekend Kiteboarding Forecast April 16th and 17th

Last Week – Close:  Friday the wind didn’t ever pick up to the 20 knot range, plus it was snowy and cold.  Saturday turned out to be the best day with sunny skies and the wind in the afternoon came up due to some thermal enhancement.  It was 15 to 20 knots out of the NW.  Sunday unfortunately I called it.  The wind stayed too SE all day for any kiteboarding.

Tally So Far:  Nailed It – 0, Close – 2, Way Off – 0

Today: Enjoy the weather whatever you may be up to.  Its been a long time since we’ve had temperatures and sun like this. There is going to be little to no wind today.  I don’t think there will even be any thermal wind.

Saturday: Repeat of Friday except even a little warmer.

Sunday: Mostly another repeat day, except I think this one has the best chance of  picking up some thermal power in the afternoon.  Looks like from north of Whitehall up to LSP we could get some S wind to 15 knots.  Maybe a little more right at the point.  The same will be true for the northern section from Manistee to Frankfort and Pt Betsie.

I’ve gotten some new gear lately and I am looking forward to trying it all out.  This will be my first summer with a dedicated light wind kite.  Hopefully I can get out and ride on a few more of the nice summer days when the wind is more of just a breeze.  Maybe this Sunday….

This is a weekly blog post of my best guess at the kiteboarding conditions for the coastline of Lake Michigan from Holland north to Pt Betsie. Subscribe to automatically receive this forecast in your inbox
