Weekend Kiteboarding Forecast Aug 11th and 12th

North Shore

[embedit snippet=”autoad”]

Last Weekend:  Nice south wind along the Lake Michigan Shoreline.  I hit North Shore beach in Grand Haven on Sunday morning and Matt hit Ludington in the afternoon. North Shore, by the way, has a nice little beach at the moment. More space than last year for setting up and the beach grass has been cleaned up. It is a private beach though so reminder to keep your gear near the pier and off the association’s beach. Also a note on Ludington… Setting up and launching at Stearns park is against park rules during the summer. You need to either launch outside the buoys or between the pier heads. Also do not kite within the swim area or you will be talking to beach patrol.  To my knowledge there hasn’t been an incident in Ludington, those are just the rules.

Water Temp:  As close as we get to bath water on the Big Lake. Mid 70s and greater for most of the

Today:  Potential for northwest thermal developing late afternoon to early evening for the southern

half of the lakeshore. Wind should be in the mid teens.

Saturday:  Light westerly winds in the single digits. Great beach day for most people with temps in the low 80s.

Sunday:  Light and variable winds.

Not much kiteboarding in the forecast for the weekend so it’s a good time to tackle that honey-do list and make sure that you are free to go the next time the wind blows!

Jeff learned to windsurf as a kid on the coast of Lake Michigan in Manistee and has been addicted to wind sports ever since. He took up kiteboarding after moving back to West Michigan in 2008.
