Weekend Kiteboarding Forecast August 20th and 21st

Last Week – Close:  Nailed it on Saturday with the NW wind, but I was off for Sunday.  The thermal didn’t happen.

Tally So Far:  Nailed It – 6, Close – 12, Way Off – 0

Water Temp:  Mid 70’s everywhere

Today:  There should be some wind out of the SW this afternoon in the 15 to 18 knot range.  There will also be some rain moving through this afternoon as well.  It’s going to have to be a wait and see if the rain clears up enough and wind holds to see whether there will be an opportunity to kite.

Saturday:  Should be some strong south winds all afternoon in the 20 to 25 knot range for the entire lakeshore.  However, a lot of rain is in the forecast too.  Hopefully there will be some openings in the rain to get out for kiteboarding.

Sunday: A cold front will be moving through late Saturday, which is going to bring big NW to W wind all day Sunday for the entire lakeshore.  It will be interesting how it develops.  Winds are forecast to be up to 30 knots, but all forecasts are not in total agreement if it will be NW or W.  I feel like the more NW, the better for waves.  Either way the waves will be big, but if the wind direction is all W, it could turn into a washing machine out there and make conditions difficult for staying up wind and battling the surf.

It’s gonna be a pretty windy weekend.  Maybe a preview of fall.
