Weekend Kiteboarding Forecast August 3rd and 4th

Last Week: Close! Friday was pretty much rained out, Saturday was right on, I rode GH all afternoon (see kite cam vid from blog) and sunday was too light with a waves.

Tally So Far: Nailed It! – 5, Close – 12, Way Off – 1

Friday:  S to SW wind to 15 knots currently from Holland to Grand Haven.  However it is going to die out as the day goes on.

Saturday:  An afternoon NNW thermal should build from Whitehall south to Holland with winds up to 20 knots.  Duck lake state park, Pere Marquette Beach, Hoffmaster St Park,  Tunnel Park and Laketon park would be some good spots to try.  I wouldn’t even try Grand Haven, due to Coast Guard fest.

Sunday:  Another afternoon NNW thermal should build, but maybe be a little stronger and reach further north.  It might get up over 20 knots around Muskegon to Holland.  I think places up north that might be rideable too are Manistee 1st St Beach and around Pentwater.

Last night I talked to NOAA and asked them how they determine where to put wind meters.  They asked me if I was a surfer or something, I said yes, (didn’t feel like getting into it) and then they asked me where I wanted wind meters.  I said little sable point and point betsie.  They actually seemed to agree with me and thought it could be easily done with the lighthouses being there.  So we’ll see what happens!

This is a weekly blog post of my best guess at the kiteboarding conditions for the coastline of Lake Michigan from Holland north to Pt Betsie.   Subscribe to automatically receive this forecast in your inbox.
