Weekend Kiteboarding Forecast June 16th & 17th

Last Weekend:  Meh.  Can we get some wind on a weekend please!

Water Temp:  Progress!  Low 60’s to low 50’s from south to north along the lakeshore.

Today:  Mostly SE wind today so side off along the lakeshore.

Saturday:  Southerly breeze for the day should result in some thermal enhancement around the typical areas.  I’d say 10 to 20 knots north of Muskegon, increasing as you go north.  The points should be windy enough to ride.  I’m not sure of the beach situation at LSP, but I know Pt Betsie is severely lacking beach.

Sunday:  Looking promising for the entire lakeshore to be 15 to 20 knots SSW in the afternoon with stronger winds around the points.

This is a weekly blog post of my best guess at the kiteboarding conditions for the coastline of Lake Michigan from Holland north to Pt Betsie. Subscribe to automatically receive this forecast in your inbox

  • Hey, what is the deal with the cams? Are they coming up again or too $$$ to run?

    • The Muskegon and Manistee surf cams are up now. We had a little internet issue this past weekend.

  • Loving it. Thanks so much! What are the chances of extending your forecast farther north? I’m in Empire. Cheers.

  • I guess I’m not quite as familiar with the wind dynamics once you get around Pt Betsie and go up the peninsula. Jeff has kited in Empire once on a NW in the summer and it was light and pretty up and down. I was able to kite in Good Harbor bay once and I know Van’s beach is a good spot too. I just don’t know the thermal dynamics of how the afternoon summer breezes pick up there.
