Weekend Kiteboarding forecast June 22nd and 23rd

Last Week: Close.  It got windy in Grand Haven on Saturday, and Sunday went as predicted.  It was windless up at Wilderness St Park.  I did scout the area and the Sturgeon Bay area would be the best spot.  I think a SW wind would be awesome there and a NW would be pretty good too.  Some spots are rocky tho.

Tally So Far: Nailed It! – 3, Close – 8, Way Off – 1

Friday: South winds in the 15 to 20 knot range from Muskegon on North.  Some good spots would be North Muskegon St Pk, Duck Lake, the Honeyhole, LSP, BSP, and Pt Betsie.

Saturday:  South winds again but lighter.  It should be good at LSP though, with winds in 15 to 20 knot range.

Sunday: This is the day to get out if you can’t on the others.  South winds from Muskegon north to Pt Betsie in the 20 to 25 knot range.  The points, LSP, BSP and Betsie could be up towards 30 knots.  Honeyhole to LSP, Ludington Sterns Park to BSP and Frankfort to Pt Betsie would be my choices.  Good day to mix in a downwinder too.

After not riding in over two weeks now, I think the next week or so is going to be good.  South wind everyday and the water is starting to get close to 60 degrees.  Just gotta watch for T-storms.

This is a weekly blog post of my best guess at the kiteboarding conditions for the coastline of Lake Michigan from Holland north to Pt Betsie.   Subscribe to automatically receive this forecast in your inbox.

  • Wow 30 knots at the points! Aren’t you concerned about it being south and gusty?

  • Could it be gusty, yes, but I wouldn’t call it a concern or a reason not to go there. I’ve only ever gone to LSP on a south wind and only one time did it nuke so hard that I felt overpowered on my 8m in the gusts and I stopped riding. The majority of the time it’s a good fairly consistent wind when it picks up in my experience.
