Weekend Kiteboarding Forecast May 20th and 21st

Last Week:  Way Off….  Kinda out of nowhere some thermals kicked in both Saturday and Sunday with enough wind to kite.  Missed that both days

Tally So Far:  Nailed It – 2, Close – 0, Way Off – 1

Water Temp:  Slowly but surely the lake is warming.  We are in the low 50’s for the southern half of the lake, but still low 40’s to the north.  Hopefully the lake doesn’t turn over tomorrow with the east wind.

Today:  NE wind for the entire lakeshore so it will be offshore.  Even too offshore for Manistee.

Saturday:  Lots of east wind, so Lake Michigan will be offshore.

Sunday:  Looking promising for some SW wind for the entire lakeshore.  Right now it looks like mid to late afternoon it will pick up with skies clearing partly.  Wind strength will be upper teens to low 20’s.  Pretty good!

Jeff and I got out this past Wednesday morning for a pre work dawn patrol session.  Wind was around 20 knots out of the south with gusts to 25.  Jeff got a new Ocean Rodeo 12m Flite that he got to ride for the first time and he let me give it a spin too.  It delivered plenty of power, had good turning speed and nice floaty boosting.  I think I could probably ride it and have fun in quite a bit less wind too as it has a very good low end.

This is a weekly blog post of my best guess at the kiteboarding conditions for the coastline of Lake Michigan from Holland north to Pt Betsie. Subscribe to automatically receive this forecast in your inbox
