Weekend Warrior Forecast 5/11 & 5/12

Last week: Close.  Friday looked rideable in Manistee on a decent north wind.  Saturday was calm as expected and Sunday was also calm all along the lakeshore, even though I thought Manistee might pick up some.

Tally so far: Nailed It! – 1, Close – 5, Way Off – 0

Friday:  Looks good north of Big Sable Pt to ride the N or NNE winds up there.  Anywhere from Frankfort to Big Sable.  I’d go to First St Beach in Manistee.

Saturday: This one is tricky.  Right around noon or 1 pm the wind is supposed to shift from SW to NW and pick up big time, but only for a short period of time.  Maybe a couple hours.  That same time of day we have a chance of rain.  I would probably wait until it is done shifting and smooths out a bit.  Should be enough wind up and down the lake shore for big kites.

Sunday:  The NW is supposed to continue and strengthen over night and should be ripping pretty good Sunday morning.  Looks like it’s going to last into mid to late afternoon on Sunday.  The whole lakeshore will be kiteable, but Pere Marquette Beach in Muskegon or Grand Haven State Park might be the best with closest to side  onshore conditions.

It’s gonna be chilly this weekend, a hard pill to swallow after the warmth we had, but it’ll be worth it for some good N winds!  Also, many of the NOAA bouys are back out on the lake and providing info again.  They can be found on our Beach Weather page.
