Weekend Wind Forecast: 2019 KOGL Edition

“Well, well, well partner… What do we have here …? You call yourself Wind? We haven’t seen you around these parts in a looong time. What you think you gonna do, you gonna rage this weekend? You gonna lift those little kites in the air with all those tiny puppets dangling from the end of those strings? Big bad wind gonna blow for once for the King of the Great Lakes?”

This weekend marks the end of summer, the start of the Fall kiteboarding season, and the King of the Great Lakes kiteboarding event and Test Fest in Grand Haven. AND it’s looking like a stellar weekend for wind on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, September 21st

South wind starting mid-morning and increasing throughout the day for the entire Lake Michigan shoreline. Rain possible starting late afternoon. Winds 20-25 knots.

Sunday, September 22nd

Southwest winds at 25-30 knots but rain and possible thunderstorms off and on all day. Just going to have to go on Sunday and keep an eye on the radar.

Hope to see you all at the KOGL in Grand Haven! We’ve been riding Ocean Rodeo for the past few years and they will be demoing their gear. I’m personally interested in checking out the new OR “Aluula” kite material which is supposed to be lighter and stronger than the current dacron fabric.

Michigan Dawn Patrol is a kiteboarding blog and hobby to keep us busy when the wind is calm. If you like our content please subscribe. You can also support this site and the webcams we host by purchasing a t-shirt from our store. See you on the water!
