Best Wind Directions for Kiteboarding 1st Street Beach Manistee: NNE, N, NNW
Best Conditions for Surf: Best surf days start out as a NNE that thermals and turns into a North, North Northwest. If you're lucky the wind will thermal into the mid 20's which will build the waves and you'll catch some good surf when the wind drops off.
Facilities: Public bath house with bathrooms, outdoor showers, and picnic area.
Parking: Free parking lot at 1st street beach
Head to 1st street beach on a North wind and park in the lot closest to the pier. Usually there is a lot of open space near the pier that is good for launch. On a north wind the L shaped south pier creates large swells with long spacing in between and surprisingly little chop. These are some of the best waves you will find on the lakeshore and is great for freestyle or surf style riding as well as surfing and stand up paddleboarding. One of the few places on the shoreline where a NE is rideable and not offshore. However, a NE can be a little unpredictable and more gusty. A straight south is also rideable at 1st street.
