Got a decent session in this past Saturday at City Beach in Grand Haven. It could’ve been a little windier and warmer, but it was good in that it kept the beach clear considering it was a Saturday in July during Coast Guard fest. For the first time I mounted my Gopro to my kite for the helicopter/sea sick view. Below is a 5 min video I put together of it. It’s not the greatest, but it’s something to pass the time when it’s not blowing out!
I rode my 8m switchblade even though I was underpowered in the lulls because my 2009 12m convert just doesn’t do it for me anymore. It’s got me thinking a lot about what my next kite size is going to be. This day it would’ve been great to have a 10m and I am considering that as my “big” kite now. It seems like most people have a 11m or bigger as a their “big” kite, but I can ride my 8m down to 16 to 18 knots, so I would think I could ride a 10m down to 13 to 15 knots and be powered in 16 to 18 knots. Then with a 10m I would have better high end then my 12m and wouldn’t have to use my 8m under 20 knots anymore. And, how much do I even want to ride in less then 15 knots? I think with a big dedicated light wind kite it could be more fun, but those are $$$! Anyone else have experience with a 10m compared to an 11m or 12m?
